August 2004 Archives

Here we are just South of Wales

I'm in Melbourne.

I arrived yesterday afternoon a little worse for wear. I had suffered four consecutive late nights, and a long, long party at my place on Saturday night...um, well, I didn't really suffer these things...at least not until Sunday morning.

Anyways, I'm here now, sleeping at work, eating at work and living at work. It's going to be interesting doing this for a month, I shall have to work hard on setting some boundaries, but I think it will work out.

No television here, which is a major problem for someone like me (ie, a pop culture junkie). In anticipation of this issue, I brought a television card from my computer at home, however there is no coaxial cable either, so I will have to hunt some down before tomorrow night, or chance missing The O.C., my current trash-tv fixation.

As I type, Blair (the head of the Melbourne office and a director of the company) is cooking lamb cutlets for dinner. He lives here as well, so I guess there will be dinner duty sharing while I'm in Melbourne. That will be different, since I've become quite comfortable with seeing only to my own needs (as I get home quite late, Robin and I don't share the cooking load).

Well, after dinner I'm going to watch the next episode of Stargate Atlantis which Robin's friend Darren kindly brought to the party on Saturday. Ah, the internet truly is a wonderful beast. A new episode of a television show available half an hour after it airs in the U.S....

Dinner is served (or close enough), so I shall leave this cathode nipple, only to return to it as soon as my earthly body is sated.

Sorry.

Melbourne and other Tales

First off, I got my green P-plates. This means I can legally drive at 100km/h, which is nice. When it came time for the photo, I thought I'd be a smart arse and make a funny face. Initially, it appeared I had got away with it too. However, after five minutes of waiting for my license to be printed, an extremely ugly and stern woman called me over:

"Joshua, come here!....Sit down there!...Look at the camera...Fine."

And, big pussy that I am, I didn't have the guts to make another stupid face. You can see my previous and new photos here.

Okay, so Melbourne. I am going there. On Sunday the 29th (if you want to bomb either Sydney or Melbourne airport, and kill me in the process, now's your chance!). I will be working in 'the Melbourne office' for a month, and then returning to my sweet Sydney.

I am looking forward to the move though, I hear the coffee is good, and what little I have seen of Melbourne was beautiful, so I'll be taking many photos. Well, that's me done for now. See you at my place tomorrow night...and if I don't, well, let's just say I won't be at all surprised.

Things of note

A site at which I've been spending a lot of my time these days is flickr an image sharing, blogging, forumy type social network site. Erm.

Anyhoo, I recommend signing up for it. It's free, and I've been assured that it will remain so (though who can really trust free stuff to remain so online?). If you do join, you get to see lots and lots of photos of frogs, and who doesn't want that?

Party Update

Okay, so responses have been registered with the party committee, and an official date has been set: The 28th of August.

This is a Saturday, three weeks from now. Be there, or be equally cool but somewhere else (or quite possibly, even more cool).

So, coming? No? Fine.

Party

Robin and I will be having a party in the next month or so. For details, ring me. If you don't have my number, ring Robin, otherwise ring one of our mutual friends. If all else fails, email me.
