Now I understand

Nat did come over on Thursday night, and that was cool. We ate wood-fired pizza, watched the live action version of The Tick, and did the whole 'hanging' thing 'till about one am. Which made me a tired, tired serf.

Last night, Robin and I saw Troy, to be honest, I didn't think it was particularly special. It certainly looked good (though the lingering, slow-mo' shots of Brad got a little tiresome), and some of the fight scenes were greatly enjoyable, but for me, it didn't really pull together particularly well. The film was certainly not a complete loss however, one standout was Eric Bana, I am increasing impressed with his performances.

The title of this post is Now I understand, and it refers to something very special that happened today...I bought a 40GB iPod. Actually, what it refers to is the fact that our role in society is to be a consumer, and that therefore we should only feel fulfilled when performing that role, ie buying expensive crap...ahem.

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, there is a point (actually, there are a few), and that point is that I'm quite glad I bought an iPod.

Hooray.

In the middle of the week?

Nat is coming to 'hang-out' tonight. "No big deal", I hear you say, "So, what?", I hear others of you say, "Meh" I hear that guy over there in the anorak say.

I'll tell you what the big deal is!

It's Thursday!

What does this mean? Well, it means that I am afforded some social interaction with my Novocastrian friends during the week. So I'm going to try to get home early if I can tonight (seven thirty, if possible), then there will be dinner, movies (maybe) and some serious 'hangin'.

Weekend is Over

It's six thirty Sunday night, so weekend is over (if you want it).

On Saturday morning, I left work early to travel down up to Newcastle for Jessie's birthday lunch. I really enjoy eating food that I neither payed for, nor had to cook myself.

Well, it seems like it was the weekend for birthday lunches, dinners and celebrations. Craig (my manager) told me on Saturday that it was his sister's birthday on Saturday, Robin drove us to Newcastle in order to attend his dad's birthday bash, and after Jessie's I went on to Nathan's mum's birthday dinner in Speers Point at Pipi's. I had the bbq octopus and greek salad, which was slightly better than mediocre. It seemed that the staff decided to compensate for the lack of olives with an overabundance of onion.

Then it was on the the movies.

We (Nathan, Michael and I) saw Van Helsing which wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be (and my hopes weren't high). The movie went for half an hour too long, and didn't seem sure if it wanted to be taken seriously, or as a self-conscious comedy...attempting both was not a good idea.

This morning, we gave mum her mother's day presents, and ate a late breakfast at a new(ish) caf in Warner's Bay. It was the kebab place that the Charlestown Square kebab people opened. Now they've turned it into a "Turkish" caf restaurant. The food was plentiful and good.

After that it was back home for Robin and I. This afternoon I had a barely noticeable haircut, and Robin has sat around guarding the house. And a very good job he's done of it, too.

I think I hear the chiming of the washing machine, so I must go transfer my clothes two feet into the dryer...Wicked!

Happy Birthday Jessie

I'd like to send a big shout out to my little sister Jessie. Happy seventeenth. I should say something funny here, like Who'd have thought you'd make it this far? or You're as ugly as you are old...not very, but I just can't think of anything particularly amusing off the top of my head.

Happy B'day Jess

Sunday, lazy Sunday

Last night Robin and I watched DVDs.

We watched The Office series two (series one doesn't seem to be available on DVD to rent.) And then we watched A Mighty Wind. If you're not familiar with Christoper Guest, or his oeuvre, I suggest strongly that you rent out some of his stuff...Okay, so that last link actually points to the A Mighty Wind imdb page, but I only found three other movies that I wanted to link to.

Today's entry seems to be breaking some of my unspoken blogging rules. For one thing, I've already linked to way too many external sites, secondly, I'm about to mention what I'm currently listening to! (Something that I think only tossers do...just kidding Lindsay). But I have iTunes shuffling through my music library, and it has come up with some gems. For instance I've just heard Blue Lines by Massive Attack, which brings back food, or memories, or...something.

Okay, so I apologise, this entry rambles and mambles, wanders about fifty miles from Pointville, (which is found in the state of Articulation), sorry. You'll be pleased to know that's just about as much wank as I can get on the page for the moment.

Keep questing for your secrets.
