As I write this I'm sitting in a Centrelink reception trying to think of questions I'll be asked in my interview and their suitable responses. My mind is a blank. Possibly because I don't actually want this job, it sounds boring, the pay is crappy and it takes an hour just to get here...
On the subject of getting here, I have a story to tell. When I asked for the ticket today, I said "Blankstown" instead of Bankstown, so I got a ticket to Blacktown from the guy. It was only when changing trains at Strathfield that I realised something might be wrong, so after consulting the map book, and confirming that Blacktown and Bankstown are actually different places, I hastily begged and bought a ticket to the correct destination and all was well. Except that I'm hot as buggery, the mid-thirties temperatures go really nicely with my interview suit...
In five minutes, I'll be ten minutes early for my interview, which I think is a good time to turn up, any earlier and I seem desperate, and later and I seem unenthusiastic.
I'm just realising that these people might have access to my website, and maybe under the circumstances, it would be best to delay posting 'till I find out I didn't get the job. No point sabotaging myself any more than I already have.
Okay, so now I'm in the actual employment agency reception, I've been told to sit and 'the wait won't be long'. The sign above the reception desk states that this is a "adult multicultural education service" centre, so I hope my extreme waspishness doesn't put them off.
The receptionist just said my name to me potential interviewer on the phone, I think that only one other applicant is...gotta go, name just got called.
Well, that was a gyp! The "interview" consisted of "what's your job seeker number?", "do you think you could do this job?", "It's in Stanmore, will that be a problem?", "can I keep this? [referring to my resum]", and finally "we'll, he'll contact you, or I'll contact you, or someone will contact you...bottom line is, you'll be contacted."
So that took all of three minutes and to be honest, I'm really hoping I don't get it. Apparently, the job will entail computer repair, which, while I'm confident I could handle it, I'm not entirely comfortable claiming it as a skill...
Anyways within an hour (hopefully), I'll be out of this suit and into my nice 21 C, temperature controlled flat. I have to do a bit of shopping this afternoon for tea, but then I hope to rest in the cool calm of my abode for many an hour.
