O suis-je?

| No TrackBacks

There has been a decided lack of updates recently, due to the fact that we don't even have a phone line at the flat, let alone a 'net connection. I plan to write a whole lot about the moving-in process, and the first few days of living there, and I've got some photos to upload...hopefully in the next few days.

For now, I'll just say that the move was exhausting, the apartment is excellent and living there is a lot of fun.

Tales of w00t

Two great things happened today, I had my graduation approved (phew), and I bumped into an old school friend and his beautiful fiance.

Two mediocre things happened today, I got a new copy of my birth certificate and I put petrol in the Corolla.

Two terrible things happened today, but not to me, for which I'm grateful.

Gottit!

Yesterday, Robin and I decided to go to Sydney again, and find another place to live (seeing as though our real estate agent didn't ring back with wonderful news and all). We had found some apartments listed on domain which looked great. They had a large heated indoor pool, spa, sauna and gym, with 24 hour security and ducted air-con. So we decided to inspect.

We got there, checked the apartments out, found one we liked, applied, and several hours later, our application was successful! So we move in this Friday. It's all a little surreal, I mean, Sydney has been looming in the distance for quite some time now, but three days to prepare? I think we must be mad!

In any case, I've been spending a good deal of my day trying to organise transport for the move, Robin has set up Gas, Electricity, etc... and I just got us home contents insurance. Since I've been fairly non-stop busy, I've hardly had a chance to let this all sink in...still I'm quite excited.

Oh, by the way, the house hunting gallery is available now, though I haven't commented on or even logically ordered the photos, so all you'll have is a bunch of badly taken interior shots from various houses in Sydney...enjoy!

Houses on a Hot Saturday

| No TrackBacks

Robin, Nathan, Nat and I went house hunting yesterday. We braved the hot streets of Hornsby, Waitara and Roseville, slugged it out with agents after our souls, saw some nice places, saw some damn nice places (with price tags to match), and actually registered our interest in a town house within spitting distance of Westfield Hornsby (and, consequently Hornsby station).

I personally think it unlikely that we'll get the place, several other people were also after it, and they weren't first time renters (and presumably, they had jobs). If we do get it, that'd be great. If we don't, well I see that as an opportunity to find somewhere even nicer (and Robin will probably see it as a complete pain in the arse).

I'll post photos of the place when I get my camera back today.

Are you a David man?

Nathan, Robin and I saw Love Actually tonight. David liked it, Nathan liked it, I liked it and Robin hated it. Guess he's more of a Margaret man.

Into the sweet arms of Valerian I go...

Healthy, Natural Sleep

Well, I got what I need and what I need is what I got.

I don't know if it's the heat, my cough, or something in the air, but I'm having great difficulty sleeping at the moment. I'm supposed to be getting up early tomorrow morning to take mum and Sarah to their respective workplaces, and all I can do is lie in bed awake.

I think I'll move my mattress out into the main area, and bask in the cool calm of the air-conditioner.

...couldn't sleep...couldn't sleep...couldn't sleep...

Searching

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Yep. Searching. Searching for a job, a place to live, and the damn remote. We (Robin and I) have been doing some online lookin' about, and found some nice places. In five minutes I'm going to ring a real estate agent in Chatswood to ask him to take us on a Saturday tour.

But there is a problem. I am still without gainful employ, and obviously I don't want to start a cycle of debt. So I must find a job, and I must find it soon. With that in mind, I've created a rsum at job search, but if any of you guys know of any resources I could tap, I'd really appreciate it.

Update: turns out that real estate agents are incapable of making appointments more than a day in advance. All the people I called said that it would be much better if I were to call them back on Friday. Stwange.

New look

| No TrackBacks

I updated hadrian today, which completely stuffed my weblog up. The choice was either to rebuild using blosxom, or migrate to movable type which I've been thinking about doing for some time now. So I made the switch.

So far, everything has worked really well, and I'm happy with the look of the site. The only problem is that I haven't yet transferred the comments, which I may do in the future.

Robin Giggling

| No TrackBacks

If you have the time to download 1.8MB from me, I think this clip of Robin giggling (Quicktime Required) is quite amusing. It was taken while Robin and I were in the car, waiting for Nat to come back with his pide bread. The music in the background is Thievery Corporation, an electronic group with eastern influences.

Update: I decided to make a smaller version of the clip by removing the video track. You can download either ogg (~30KB) or mp3 (~76KB) versions.

Snake!

Tonight I was sitting in my room reading through a Slashdot story, when I heard Jadzia meowing at me from the back of my room. When I looked behind me, I saw that Jadzia was meowing at a 30cm long snake that she had brought in for me. I clubbed it with my boot, which I think killed it, but it kept sliding about my floor, so I cut its head off just to make sure it was dead. I think it may have bitten Jadzia, as there is some blood visible on her fur, but I can't find any holes on her, so I'm hoping it's the snake's blood. I'd take a picture, but unfortunately, I lent my camera to my parents, as they're at my Auntie's 50th birthday party, I'll have to take a shot when they get home tomorrow.

It's still wriggling about on my floor.

Update: at Robin's suggestion, I fired up the webcam I've borrowed from him. I have a coupla shots of the snake. No, it's not a shoe lace.
Update The Second: I have added two 'hi-res' shots of the snake to the snake gallery.

Revolutionary Dietary Technique

| No TrackBacks

I have just thought of the greatest diet since the much maligned seafood-diet (apparently, there was an associated joke, but I never heard it). Now, whenever I'm feeling hungry, and in dire need of food, I'll just drink a cup of coffee. Brilliant! In fact, as soon as my hands stop shaking, I'm going to pour myself another.

Props to my Homies

I was browsing the 'net today, like any other day, when I came across a link to my site on Saranne and Jared's most excellent site. Just thought I'd tell you guys (all three of you).

Sidekicks 2 no more

Turns out, Jonathan Brandis topped himself. Which has really spoiled my dreams of Sidekicks 2 ever being made with the original cast, forestalling his return as an arse kicking ghost, which would actually be pretty cool now that I think about it...

...as a dog

| No TrackBacks

What's more fun than filling tissues all day, coughing 'till your throat feels like grated liver, and generally feeling crap? ... I can't remember! That's the problem with being sick, it's very hard to remember what it's like to be well. Anyways, speaking of dogs, there are a couple of pics of Jake trying to walk sideways which are quite funny.

Gallery Section Added

A new Gallery Section has been added to the site, a link to it is on the left below "Navigate the site". Check it out, or be yourself, tiger phantom!

Update: the gallery section link can now be found on the right of the main page below Places of Interest.

The Beach

Tonight was unbearably hot, which shouldn't have been so bad, seeing as though we have an air conditioner. However, it was decided by The Powers That Be that using the air-con was the height of decadence, as if we were gluttons who sought only cool, cool comfort.

Something had to be done, or I would surely die of heat exhaustion, so I decided to drive to the beach to cool down. I left home at about 10pm, and got home just after 11pm, and it's still ridiculously heated here. Anyhoo, I took some shots while I was there, though they are mostly too blurry, too dark or too badly framed to be of any visual interest. Buh bye!
