Interview

If I had an audience, I imagine I'd have a lot of critics and detractors emailing their daily hate. So I would agree to give an interview with their leader, their head honcho, their gros fromage. I think it would go something like this :

What would you say to those that claim your website is nothing but self indulgent tripe?
I'd have to agree with them.

Oh...erm (shuffles through ten pages of notes)...and those who say the writing is terrible?
Well, I'd start with pointing out that they're fat. Then I'd make fun of their silly noses. That'd show them.

Yes...erm...thankyou for your time, my liege
I always have time for my humble subjects. Now if you'll forgive me, I'll be off to my moon base on my flying tiger. Two of the way cool things that I own...the moon base and the flying tiger that is.

End Interview

That's pretty much how I see it, though maybe with more references to my magic powers.

Auspicious Beginnings

On Friday I finished what was potentially my last university exam. I was quite pleased with it, Franz (the subject coordinator) is nothing if not a reasonable man. From uni, Nathan and I went to Nat's, and from there, to Coffs!

The trip up was a little worrying, as we endured the heaviest rain I have ever driven in. And we fear that this start to our holiday might be full of signs and portents of what is to come. What was more worrying, for me at least, was that the weather cleared up whenever Nathan was driving...I think I'm cursed.

We arrived at Ocean Parade Motel some time after five. It's nothing special, but it is directly across from the beach, and it's certainly no Big Bed Roachmotel. We actually have a working toaster and microwave.

Today we went shopping, buying extention leads, coax cable, and other hardware...let's just say the original setup for the television was less than ideal.

Nat's been taking a few shots with his analog camera. I'll upload them when the roll we're on finishes. (Note to self, get digital camera).

Coffs seems quite pleasant, everything's within walking distance and there are some nice looking restaurants, and two curry places!

Electric Boogaloo (anyhoo), I think it's time for me to get back to the important business of chillin'. Peace out.

Chhhk. Over

(Oh, as a side note, I bought a pair of sun glasses, They're sorta like US state trooper sunnies, except cheap...and blue.)

Brisbane Gallery is up

I placed a temporary Brisbane Gallery on the site. It's pretty shoddy, mostly just a proof of concept, and I promise to blur people's faces out very soon.

Update: I've removed the gallery in favour of a dynamically generated one. See the eighth of December for details.

Waiter, there's a carcinogen in my water!

I received an email a while ago stating that reusing plastic water bottles can cause them to break down into carcinogenic compounds! After a bit of research I found this article on snopes.com, a great site about urban legends. It turns out that this rumour is entirely untrue, and was based on a master's thesis which had not been peer reviewed. So that's one less carcinogen to worry about...

Software Process exam over

Well, I had my Software Process exam today, and it was as I predicted. Not that I can complain, if they'd asked me anything more specific than "What is a software product?" I think I would have cried. Damn. I'm crying now just thinking about it. Well, it's the Alias final tonight, which I'm pretty excited about (yes, I am that sad), so no work for me this fine eve. Tomorrow I start learning about distributed systems, which should be interesting. I hope the lecture notes are good!

Coffs Harbour

Well, it's only four days 'till Nathan, Nat and I go to sunny Coffs Harbour. I'm quite looking forward to it, and whenever my lack of study made me feel even the slightest bit guilty,
I'd just say to myself "Whoa there, Nellie" (that's what I call myself, long story). "Whoa there, Nellie", I'd say, "you're going to Coffs Harbour soon, and anyway, only losers study". And then I'd feel all right.

We're staying at a Motel/Hotel which Nathan managed to get mates rates at. It's on Ocean Parade, which, as you can see on this map is right on the water. Plus, we get breakfast delivered each morning! You can't ask for significantly more than that.

Anyhoo, one of the main reasons for this posting was to collate a list of activities to partake of whilst in Coffs, so without further ado, the list :

  • Chill
  • Read books
  • Listen to much music
  • Swim, snorkel
  • Watch movies
  • Bush walk
  • Eat out
  • Go shopping

If there's anything else you think would be cool, drop me a line, or add a comment, and I'll add it to the list.

Michael's Birthday

Yesterday, the 15th of November was Michael's birthday, I forgot to call him so instead I'll put up a crappy happy birthday here. Happy 24th Birthday Michael. I think this means I don't need to buy him a present.

Two exams to go...

Tomorrow I have an exam on the "Software Process", which should be a couple of hours of BS, and on Friday I have my distributed systems exam, my final examination of my degree! (Hopefully, anyways).

This weekend was supposed to be a big study fest, but unfortunately the commodore broke down (twice!), so I haven't been able to get to uni yet. I plan to go today and basically read the text book and do some online quizzes, I figure that'll take a couple of hours, and that'll be it. Yep. I probably should plan these things better.

First Post

Well here I am, a member of the great unread (or joining the ranks of the unread, as Robin would have it). Embarking upon the adventure that is blogging, diving deep into the unknown waters of the 'net, vainly attempting to sound adventurous and brave. And I'm starting to notice that trying to come off all self deprecating, just makes one sound like a tosser...oh well.
